Fishing is a very frustration and time dedication skill to rise. At times it can be rewarding and other times it can be very boring. I have compiled here, information that I have collected from various fishing guides. This should help if you choose to pursue fishing. I also reccomend leveling up cooking at the same time. Baits are alot cheaper to make then to buy.
There are three fishing guilds that I know of: Windurst Port, Selbina, and Babiki Bay. Make sure to get Advanced Synthesis support if those guilds are nearby. It helps alot in fishing! Good luck :) |

There are four pieces of fishing gear: Body, Hands, Legs and Feet. Each piece adds +1 to your fishing skill, which in turn helps you catch more fish and helps the recast timer to be less. There are also "Angler's" fishing gear. It gives the same amount of fishing skill plus defense. |
The recast timer is the amount of time you need to wait before you can recast. The higher your level in fishing is, the lower your recast time. It is useful to know if you want to set a macro for fishing like:
/p Start fish
/wait (recast time)
/fish
Here is a list of the recast time according to each level:

Like every guild, you need to turn in something to an npc at the guild to raise the level cap of that skill and reach a higher rank. Here is a list of the fishes that you need to turn in.

Use at your own risk! I use to be a anti-bot person until I realized how hard it is to get Lu Shang's without one. I read somewhere that it is ok to use a bot as long as you are attending to it. So if you do decide to use a bot, here is a great one. We lovingly named it Nemo :P :

Levels: 0-8
Rod(s) & Bait: Bamboo + Lugworms, Composite or Carbon + Sabiki Rig
Locations: Port Windurst
Target Fishes: Bastore Sardines, Ques
Notes: Make sure you get advanced synthesis support since you are right next to the guild
Levels: 8-11
Rod(s) & Bait: Carbon or Composite + Insect Paste
Locations: Port Sandoria, Windurst Woods, Windurst Walls, Windurst Waters
Target Fishes: Moat Carps
Notes: Insect Pastes are much cheaper to make then to buy. If you are planning to get the Lu Shang rod, then start turning in moat carps now. You will also catch an occasional gold carp. They make a nice profit when sold to the fishing guild. Also make sure you keep one of the moat carps to turn in to the npc to level your rank.
Levels: 11-20
Rod(s) & Bait: Composite Rod + Fly Lures
Locations: East Ronfaure river or steam
Target Fishes: Cheval Salmon, Shining Trout
Notes: Save a Cheval Salmon to turn in to npc to level your fishing rank.
Levels: 20-30
Rod(s) & Bait: Composite Rod + Frog Lure
Locations: La Theine Plateau (one of the small ponds on the south)
Target Fishes: Dark Bass, Giant Catfish, Red Terrapin
Notes: This was my favorite place to fish ^^v The Red Terrapins are a great profit when you sell them to the fishing guild. Don't forget to keep a Giant Catfish to turn in to the npc for rank level!
Levels: 30-40
Rod(s) & Bait: Composite Rod + Sliced Sardine
Locations: South Gustaberg, East Sarataruba
Target Fishes: Ogre Eel, Zalfmug Bass, Gold Lobster, Bastore Bream, Bladefish
Notes: If your cooking skill is high enough and you want to save gil. You can fish up the bastore sardines and chop them up with wind crystals to use as bait.
Levels: 40-50
Rod(s) & Bait: Mithran + Rogue Rig
Locations: Buburimu Peninsula
Target Fishes: Shall Shells
Notes: Monsters can be caught and Bogys spawn on the beaches as well. Level 40 + melee recommended. Or mage use sneak to fish.
Levels: 40-54
Rod(s) & Bait: Composite Rod or Mithran Rod + Insect Paste
Locations: Port Sandoria, Windhurt Woods, Windurst Walls, Windurst Waters
Target Fishes: Gold Carp
Notes:Again you can turn in the moat carps if you are planning on trying to obtain Lu Shang's Rod.
